• View a magnets invisible lines of force and manipulate it with our own hands! Place a magnet under the dish. Gently shake the dish. Tip the dish to one side, so the extra flings inside fall away from the magnet. Notice how certain areas of the magnet attract more filings. Those areas are the magnets poles. How do the areas of attraction of the disc magnet differ from those of the bar magnet? Where are the disc magnets poles? Where are the bar magnets poles? Breaks in the pattern of the filings inside the dish indicate the separations between the poles of the magnet.
